Holly jolly

It seems I've unintentionally taken a hiatus from my blog, and I'm sorry! Not much to update in terms of work, but I'll have some fun things to share soon. I just received my sketchbook in the mail for the sketchbook project, so when I get cracking on it I'll post the pages as I go along. The theme, as I mentioned a while back, is "everyone we know," so I'm trying to think of how to interpret that personally. I thought it would be neat to come up with a bunch of strange characters, or to do characterizations of my friends and family, so we'll see how it works itself out.

My presentation/review of my senior project is on Friday, so I'm just preparing my materials and gathering all my sketches and research to show the faculty. I never look forward to these things, so once it's over I'm going to be one happy camper (and completely done with my BFA!)

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, I know I did! Having so many friends in town around the holidays is great and there never seems to be a dull moment. It's sad to see them go back to their other worlds but it's nice to know Christmas is on the horizon as well and we'll all be together again. That's my warm fuzzy token for this week...

Till we meet again...

Read more books.

Finally done. I don't even know what to write! Aside from my sheer relief that this is almost over (I still have to present this), I am also happy that everything pretty much came out to my liking. Hopefully you all enjoy as well. Time to have a drink!

To fill in the newcomers, this campaign is to be seen on a giant scale, on buildings in and around Cleveland.

S.O.S {sos?}

Ohmygoodnessican'ttakeitanymore!!!!

I can't wait till this thing is done. My life has so not been normal these last weeks so sorry to all of my loved ones who think I have dropped off the face of the earth. No, I'm still here, just chained to my desk and my computer (which crashed last night and ate my external hard drive...nice!).

I lost three pages last night, and when you're up till 3 am typing them it's not very nice when you have to start them over right after. I don't know what to do...I'm not going to even deal with the hard drive situation until it's all over with, but if it's bad, it will be really bad. Like, my whole college career's work gone. Bye-bye! Thin air! Like that. HELP.

Weekend update.

Okay, so I'm taking one of my few alloted breaks for the day. Mostly I just need to eat today, so while I eat, I'll post, and be a multi-tasking wizard. The authors project is due Friday so it makes more sense to actually work on it rather than to post about it (such revelations of mine occur daily). I can't wait to show you all what I've been working on, but I need to finish it first. Also, the fun doesn't end there...there's a paper to go along with it! Hooray! Probably 25 pages worth at least! CAN'T WAIT TO GRADUATE. This is getting ridiculous.

To entertain everyone in the meantime, here's my top ten of...I don't know, the weekend?

1 : Deerhunter on friday was aweeeeeesome. Also, Times New Viking opened (from columbus! signed to matador) and they rocked. The other amazing thing about shows at the Grog shop is that when you walk back to your car, you can stop by Guy's and get a slice of heaven. Mmmm
2 : I made french onion dip and it's delish and I can't stop eating it.
3 : I really hope the cat gets fed this week while I'm working.
4 : What's up with the snow warnings? Really. There's nothing up here!
5 : I cannot wait for my sister to come home, and for friends to visit! One of the only things I like about the holidays. And, the Murray's Christmas party...legendary.
6 : Went to Presti's yesterday after driving around (thanks mark) shooting more pictures for the project (shooting blank walls to make beautiful). Got pepperoni bread...it is otherworldly.
7 : Buy me this for Christmas. Slate please. I felt the fleece, and it is goooood.
8 : Watched I'm Not There on saturday...awesome to watch, def. confusing at times...love the little boy who is Woody Guthrie. And Cate Blanchet was incredible.
9 : I'm tired.
10 : I realized I might actually not hate winter so much this year, because I'm not longer having to walk to classes all day in the multiple FEET of Kent State snow, getting my boots soaked, my fingers frostbitten, and my hair snowed on. Things could be looking for you, winter.

Over & out.

Luxe Paperie

Let's take a break from my own work for a second...let's have a letterpress treat! It's been a while. I was going to make this a weekly thing but alas, I don't have hours upon hours of internet surfing to discover these treasures so...they'll get here when they get here! Today I was browsing Luxe Paperie for holiday cards and started wondering...

...who spends this much on holiday cards?? Honestly, I love sending cards and greetings and things in the mail, but don't people just throw their Christmas cards away after it's over? Do you? I know I save the special ones (and the well-designed ones) but how can you be sure the person on the receiving end treasures your beautifully letterpressed, four-bucks-a-pop card as much as you would? I would love nothing more than to just write inside, "Merry Christmas! Oh yeah, and if you're going to toss this, send it back to me!" Just a thought.

This isn't a holiday card, but, all the more lovely.

So we beat on...

...boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

Last line of Gatsby in case you were wondering. Here's round one of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Did you know his hometown church in Maryland wouldn't allow him to be buried in their cemetery because he wasn't a practicing Catholic at the time of his death? His daughter Scottie had to lobby for his body to be moved there after his wife passed away. The quote above is inscribed on a slab atop his grave.

Sylvia.

Dear Sylvia Plath, you are so confusing. You are inspiring and smart and so very beautiful, but you are also so very sad. You didn't mean to kill yourself, but still...you stuck your head in an oven. What were you trying to prove?

These colors are quite washed out...oh well. The pink is still very pepto-bismol, and please excuse the crop again.

Cropping is a little funky (there's much more open space on the right), but you get the direction, eh?
