UO Blog + Spacesick

This seems a little shameful considering I'm working here now (blech), but the Urban Outfitters blog is actually pretty cool—without the Urban pricetag (ridiculous, stupid). PLUS it's more pictures, less words, reads like a magazine. I really like the simple blogroll (it's a continuous thread that scrolls to the right, not down, ooooh!) and there's a lot of good stuff on there, including the awesome "I can read movies" series by Toledo, OH  illustrator Spacesick (a few shown below).

These are...so sweet. Definitely give me that old-gradeschool-workbook vibe. Little before my time though.

Moving?

I've been poking around lately looking for other hosting options for my blog...particularly in the interest of having larger, better quality images and a different type of accessiblity. However, as much as I rely on the internet, I know nothing about manipulating it into performing magic for me. I don't want to lose my links, posts, etc. but haven't the slightest clue how to transfer my feed into another host. Does this make sense? Any help, guys?

Little preview

Hope you all had a great Valentine's day (?), I know I did. I went on a date with my lovely bff Katie to Player's, which has delicious food and the most terrible logo EVER. We had tempura strawberries stuffed with goat cheese (delish omg omg) and pasta and pizza and followed it all with lots of wine...yummmm.

Also proud of myself for making buttercream icing for Katie's cupcakes...forgot to take a picture but they came out so cute!

Keep your eyes peeled for the March issue of Cleveland Magazine, I did some spots and an opener page for their Top Doctors editorial. Above is one of the unedited spots, I'll post the rest after the issue comes out. Should be on the stands at the end of the month!

When I grow up I wanna be in advertising...

...want to rethink your life? me too.

Apocalypse.

I'd like to take a moment and address some issues with someone whom I though would become a good friend of mine: the year 2009.

2009, I really thought we were gonna do it big...we'd be PB & J, Dumb and Dumber, Bobby and Sissy from Lawrence Welk. 2008 was pretty good but when it had rough patches, boy, they were rough. But so far, buddy, you're not making a strong case for this. Nope. Not at all. Within the first month of our courtship, 2009, you set my brother's room on fire, causing my mother to become a fire-paranoid schoolteacher when the last thing she needs to be is more paranoid. You ripped me off on craigslist, and I have lost a valuable, sellable item because of it. I no longer trust the internet. You have also not helped me get paid for freelance work that I completed back in mid-December. Now, I don't trust companies OR human beings. Thanks!

So far the only good things to come out of our relationship, 2009, is that Barack Obama is now president, the Steelers won the Superbowl, and I got another fun illustration gig with Cleveland Magazine. I discovered the "watch instantly" feature on netflix, finished my dad's living room makeover, and Giorgio's has lowered the price of their one-topping pizzas by a dollar (now there really ARE five bucks!).

All in all I'd say those are pretty good things, but really, unless the Steelers start paying my bills or Obama helps me find a job,* it all seems to even out. Thankfully there are few things to look forward to in the near future, such as my lesbo Valentine's day date with Katie, Mark's birthday, AND our anniversary, all this month. Emotionally rewarding, monetarily draining. Why are things so complicated? A little help here, '09?

*I mean a real job, beyond competing with 19-year-olds for a promotion at UO.
