OVER IT.

This probably comes from my current situation, but I am SO OVER the design world right now.

BARF.

I love this cover for a book on the work of Saul Bass & Associates. Creative. Simple. Lifestyle. Why don't things look this good anymore? It all runs together. And don't tell me I'm not looking in the right places. I am. And there's still good stuff out there, it's just that those people deserve MILLIONS for what they do for our world.

I miss the artfulness of everything. No one is artful {correction: some designers are artful. Most are not}. So much of the applications I see are regurgitated, recycled...pulled from an example, plugged into a formula. Italics go there, place trendy shape here. Recycling I get—I understand that supposedly nothing is original. But that's not entirely true. Matisse was original. Sure, his organic human forms were derivative of the naivete of Earthen shapes and cave-type paintings, but we had never seen them in his way before. The art world seems to be all that is relevant to me right now—illustrators with their own voices, creating work for their own pleasure as well as in regimented forms to make money.

I want to know how differently they hold their tools, or at what point they scan their linework into the computer {if they even use one} and if they would ever try using melted wax as a medium. I don't give a shit that you know how to use rules and flourishes properly, you probably just copied it out of a magazine anyway. I just want teeth and something raw and something that MATTERS.

Over & out.

))))))

Can I ask you all a giant favor?

That'd be great.

Could I possibly get some positive vibes? Just a few? Sent my way, whenever. Preferably today or tomorrow.

Thanks, you're the best.
