did I? OH YES I DID.

sigh.

I used glitter in this piece. like, MEGA glitter. I've been wanting to use it for a while, and thought this storybook-princess piece would be a good place to use it. I have more colors, more ideas, and kinda can't wait to keep going with it. trying to keep it balanced between art and craft, trying to blur the line.

this was a GIANT pain the ass to do, there is still glitter all over my carpet, and somehow I managed to frame this without any speck of it falling off onto the mat board. high five!

apologies for the iphone photos...will have better ones soon. the oval frame shape also looks smoother in person.

handmade business cards

sometimes things just don't go as planned, and you have to find a workaround that gives you the best results.

with my show coming up (three weeks!), and not enough dough in the bank to spend on the letterpress cards I wanted, I needed business cards that were still special. I decided to make them by hand, and yeah, this was laborious. it took me a while, lots of steps, LOTS of cutting (only drew blood once! ha) and I finally have a hundred or so.

I used my grandma's old fabric—leftover swatches from things she has made and scraps she held onto. I used three patterns, with two ink colors/tagboard colors (red and pink) to match the fabric.

once I run out of these, I'll start over with different patterns. when these are gone, they're gone! by changing it up, I'll be able to tell at what point I gave the card out (if someone contacts me, I can ask what the card looks like, and know how/about when-ish they got it). I have to give Jimmy credit for this 'limited quantity' idea; it'll help me keep track of my networking because (hopefully) I'll have to!

I think they're colorful and fun, and still have that tactile, special quality I wanted. hope you like! come and find me if you want one...

back to work!

fresh wallpaper

After the last couple days of sun and mild temperatures, my homespun/cozy wallpaper just wasn't cheering me up anymore. I refreshed it with this one from Kitsune Noir's Desktop Wallpaper Project, this one features Toro Y Moi. You can learn more about him and his music here and download this image for your desktop or iphone. Love the dreaminess of this...

shark boy goes to school

there isn't anything I like to draw more than people and animals...combining the two right now, working on a few new pieces for my april show. just a goofy sketch I thought I'd share. nice crappy photo huh? time to get a scanner, haha. I think shark boy might make it onto the wall once I finish him.

also making some updates to the blog...new header, larger images, wider columns (have you noticed?) woo hoo! so come back and look.

don't your dog bite?

I will never get sick of this theme song! Popped into my head today for no reason. I used to love this show...I have both seasons if anyone ever wants to relive their '90s middle school days.
