I decided to switch up my recipe format to make it easier for you to print and save the recipe. Trust me, you'll thank me later when you're in a Nutella coma ;)
Original recipe found over at Bakingdom.

Hey everyone – are you all still frozen solid? Yeah, me too!
My lovely pal Maria was nice enough to feature me on this week's Style Views post over on the style letters! We talked shop about winter layering, holiday parties, and how to wear head-to-toe neutrals (my personal fave). Head on over there for the full interview, and to see her other awesome styling tips for the upcoming spring season!

If you haven't noticed, it's called as balls outside. It was 7 degrees when I left for work this morning. WHAT! That being said, I won't be running any errands, leaving the house, or getting out from under the blankets without a fight. Here are some of my favorite Etsy picks to get you through the cold front – how amazing are those bow mittens?!
Stay warm, everyone!

JANUARY 15: "An ordinary moment" – this is usually what I'm thinking about at any given time throughout the day. Most nights I cook for my boyfriend, too. Do you guys struggle with this as well? I think it's harder when you care about being healthy/sustainable/budget-friendly, while trying to keep things interesting. It's just food – it should be fun, not hard, but it is! Why?!

Here are some of the brightest images from the Spring '13 runway shows, hopefully this will tide you over until March (or April...or June) as well!
I love how the Kate Spade collection just GOES FOR IT. Head-to-toe yellow? Why not! Are you guys already itching for spring?

JANUARY 8: "Something beginning with T" - I grew this herb last summer for the first time, not knowing what I would use it for, and ended up loving it. Thyme adds a light, crisp sweetness to dishes and it smells divine. It grew like crazy, so I was able to store some in the freezer for winter use. I also love to add it to chicken, in addition to the foods listed. What is your favorite herb?

I was this close to buying a set of hair elastics from Anthropologie a while back, but stopped short after I saw the price tag. $12 for only FIVE? Yikes! I put them back, thinking I could find them cheaper elsewhere, until I found a couple of tutorials online and decided to make them myself.
This was ridiculously easy, and I was able to make about 45 hair ties for only $11 (take that, Anthropologie). So here's what you'll need:
Foldover elastic in 5/8" size - as many yards and whatever colors you'd like. Each yard makes about 4 hair ties. I purchased my elastic here, and they are actually running a New Year's promo thru tomorrow, Jan. 6th at midnight: use code NEWYEAR2013 to save 15% off your entire order.
Measure and cut a piece of elastic (flat) to 8.25". If you have thicker hair, add another quarter or half inch. Also something to note: the glitter elastics seem to be less stretchy than the solids, so I added a half inch to those. Otherwise, they wouldn't fit on my wrist!
Tie ends in a knot, leaving about half-inch sized tails, and trim ends together at an angle.
Using a lighter, you'll seal the ends to keep them from fraying. Hold the flame close to the ends, without touching them. You'll see the fibers melt a little, creating a finished edge.
And you're done! This is an easy, mindless thing to do while crushing through episodes of Homeland (obsessed with that show) or whatever you please :) I love these ties because they don't leave a big crease in your hair, and they look cuter on your wrist for those emergency ponytails. Hopefully this saves you a couple bucks, too, because I know I won't ever be buying these!

Recently, I've found myself taking less time to sketch and draw for myself. Often there's something more pressing to do, or I'm just creatively drained from projects at work. Sometimes, there's no reason — or maybe I'd rather bake a batch of cookies ;)
To get me back on track, I've decided to start a daily project inspired by one of those ever-popular Instagram photo-a-day challenges. Instead of shooting photos, I'll be interpreting the prompts with my sketchbook and sharing them here and on my Instagram account. Each post will be marked with the tag #dailydoodlejan (and continuing with each month) to keep the posts easy to follow.
Here are the illustrations from the last three days. Hope you'll follow along thru the month, and hopefully beyond!
JANUARY 1: "Today" - Stars lyrics that seemed appropriate to start the project
JANUARY 2: "Something New" - The Marc Jacobs for Target pouch that I snagged for $20
JANUARY 3: "Heart" - Full of diamonds

After having 11 days off for the holidays, I was dreading my alarm all night. I love taking time off at Christmas — there is so much going on, it's here and gone before you know it, and without a little r'n'r time, it just goes too fast. I was able to visit with so many friends and family and was reminded of why I love this time of year (but endless cookies and cocktails don't hurt, either)!
So pardon me, as I relive a little bit of my blissful break:
a new Christmas cookie staple (recipe here)
this glittery snow scene was made by Jim's sister, isn't it awesome?
cheesin' at Matt & Taylor's winter wedding
a lit-up Terminal Tower
stocking up at the market
having some Prosecco on New Year's Eve
out celebrating at midnight
Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season, and thank you all for following along with me and SS in the last year. Your support, comments, and pins mean so much to me as I grow this little brand and business. Wishing you all the best, most creative year yet!
See more and follow along on Instagram.
